Everyone Can Be a Volunteer!

Flavia Pansieri at the UN House in BrusselsOn 7 September 2012, the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC), together with the Association pour les Nations Unies and the United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV), organised a discussion about the UNV programme with its Executive Coordinator, Ms. Flavia Pansieri.

We took this opportunity to ask Ms. Pansieri about the origins of the Programme and the opportunities for its greater engagement in the work of the United Nations in the future.

In the video below, she reveals that every year they have between 7,500 and 8,000 volunteers working in peacekeeping operations, development and humanitarian response. She also stresses that everyone can be a volunteer and that volunteering is not only an opportunity to contribute to society but also an opportunity for personal growth.
