Advancing European health amidst global crises
on Monday 5 December, 2011 from 14.00 to 15.30
with Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organisation
at Polak Room, Residence Palace, Rue de la Loi 155, 1040 Brussels
The European Policy Centre is delighted to invite you to the CHES (Coalition for Health, Ethics and Society) Annual Lecture on Monday 5 December, with Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organisation. This annual lecture forms part of a series of discussions aimed at promoting multi-stakeholder dialogue between health and non-health practitioners on current and emerging health issues.
The economic crisis is having an enormous impact on European society, but this is not the only challenge. Budget constraints coupled with demographic change and the increasing needs of an ageing population are creating further pressures. The rise in pandemics and environmental catastrophes are also leaving their mark and are having an impact on Europe’s health systems and on the health of its citizens. At this CHES Annual Lecture, Dr Chan will address these issues and set out her vision for deepening co-operation between the EU and the WHO, especially in the area of innovation. The lecture will be chaired by Hans Martens, EPC Chief Executive.
