Working in some of the world’s most challenging environments, UNOPS provides project management, procurement, human resources management, financial management and other support services, customized to meet individual partner’s needs. UNOPS mission is to expand the capacity of the UN system and its partners, including the European Union, to implement peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations for people in need.

UNOPS focus areas

UNOPS has particular experience supporting its partners to deliver tangible results in the following areas: physical infrastructure, public order and security, census and elections, the environment and health.

UNOPS presence

UNOPS delivers its services through its global headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, and a decentralized network of five regional offices and more than 20 operations and project centres. UNOPS oversees activities in more than 80 countries.

A EU project to repair a key road in the DRC that hopes to revive the country’s flagging agricultural sector. Boende-Monkoto village road          Contracted by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNOPS managed all aspects of the construction of 225 schools in post-tsunami Indonesia.

UNOPS mandate

Reaffirmed by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 December 2010, UNOPS mandate is to act as a service provider to various actors in the development, humanitarian and peacekeeping arenas, including the United Nations, its agencies, funds and programmes, donor and recipient governments, intergovernmental organizations, international and regional financial institutions, non-governmental organizations, foundations and the private sector.

UNOPS Liaison Office in Brussels

UNOPS opened an office in Brussels in July 2009, following the signature of the Financial and Administrative Framework Agreement (FAFA) with the European Commission (EC), to increase understanding and coordination between the organization and the EC and provide a focal point for senior UNOPS managers across the globe.
    
UNOPS Headquarters in Copenhagen In countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Myanmar, the occupied Palestinian territory, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste, UNOPS is supporting the EC’s efforts to provide physical infrastructure, public order and security as well as social and economic development.
